Staverton-based Intoco, which employs 43 people within the county, is celebrating 50 years in business.

The firm had a turnover of £14million in its last financial year and is one of Europe's largest independent stockholders and distributors of special steels and alloys, supplying a wide range of grades and sizes for demanding applications.

In 1972, Intoco (Independent Tool Consultants) was established by Tony Preece as a manufacturing company, originally supplying extrusion press parts and hot-work tool steel components to the aluminium extrusion industry.

Over the course of the proceeding years, the manufacturing division continued to evolve and advance, with continued investment in state of the art, top quality machines.

In 2001, Intoco opened a new distribution centre for special steels and alloys. It now stocks more than 25 grades of special steels and alloys which are offered to industries such as oil and gas, energy, chemical and petrochemical, and fastener markets.

Fast forward to 2020 and Les Preece, having served 35 years with Intoco and being the founder of the special steels and alloys division, was appointed managing director of both the special steels and alloys and manufacturing divisions.

Mr Preece said: "For 50 years, integrity, forward-thinking innovation, and technical expertise have been at the core of everything Intoco encapsulates as a company.

"Despite industry challenges and changing economic climates, Intoco has developed strong relationships with the renowned steel mills, to ensure continuity in the availability of the widest size range of highly specified stainless steels and nickel alloys.

"Intoco currently holds around £18m in stock (and increasing) and we remain committed to building for the future, maintaining customer satisfaction but also expanding our customer base through continued investment in our people and processes."
