Never in a million years did we think glazed donuts would inspire top beauty trends, but here we are. We don’t know about you, but we certainly didn’t have that on our bingo card. What started as glazed donut skin quickly became a hot nail color trend with glazed donut nails. And now, glazed donut hair is poised to take off.
As with the other glazed donut trends made popular by Hailey Bieber, glazed donut hair is all about adding shine back into your strands. Think liquid hair, only this latest glossy hair trend will restore vibrancy, neutralize color, and repair damage. Mane Addicts tapped L’Oréal Professionnel Global Ambassador Min Kim to get all the details on the glazed donut hair trend—keep scrolling to find out more!

With this hair trend, it’s all about the shine. More than that, it’s also about improving the health of your hair. So not only does your hair look shiny and healthy, it actually is shiny and healthy. Kim shares that the trend starts “with a gloss, then warm tones or highlights are added in, and it’s followed up with a hydrating oil at home.” She recommends the L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Oil, “which is moisturizing, reparative, and lightweight.”
Kim stresses the importance of booking a consultation before actually getting the service. Photos are always helpful to bring so do some research. Ultimately, Kim shares that you’ll “ask for hi-shine hair with dimension, warmth, and/or highlights through the lengths and ends” to get glazed donut hair.
More specifically, the treatment is known as a French gloss, which is “a two-step service that is complemented by the L’Oréal Professionnel Metal Detox Pre-Treatment,” notes Kim. “Metal Detox helps to prevent breakage and dullness (high shine) by removing minerals and metals found in hair. The next component is the color service, whether it be all-over or after a highlight service, followed by the French gloss. This is all about intense shine and creating the perfect canvas to reflect tons of light all while resurfacing the hair to make it extra shiny and healthy.” You can find a L’Oréal Professional salon nearest you here to book a French gloss.
At-home glazed donut hair is more about maintaining the in-salon service rather than achieving it yourself. Because there are so many components to getting this trend right, it’s best to put your hair in the hands of a professional, otherwise, you run the risk of damaging your strands. Kim suggests you complement the “treatment service at home to maintain the shine, tone, and moisture results from the salon service.” To do this, she recommends using the L’Oéal Professionnel Metal Detox Shampoo and Mask, along with the L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Oil to “add more lightweight moisture and shine.”

Kim recommends maintaining your glazed donut hair at home with this shampoo. This detoxifying sudser works hard (but gently) to remove any metal in your hair. By doing so, this not only sets you up for stronger hair, but also adds vibrance and shine to your hair color.
Similar to the shampoo, this hair mask also works to protect your hair from metals and other harmful particle deposits that exist in your bathing water. While the shampoo removes, the mask keeps these hair-ruining metals and particles out of your hair to leave your hair color brighter longer.
A heat protectant is critical to ensuring your glazed donut hair stays, well, glazed. Kim suggests spritzing on the L’Oréal Professionnel Fluidifier Heat Protectant to minimize heat damage and keep your hair frizz-free.
Wheat germ oil, protein, and gold quinoa give this oil the power to offer 10 hair benefits, including shine, protection, smoothness, and a whole lot more. When it comes to finishing off your look, Kim suggests running some of this oil through your hair to maintain the signature shine of glazed donut hair. You can even use it in between wash days to boost vibrancy when you don’t want to use the mask or shampoo.
Kim mentions you can use this hairspray for “an extra layer of shine for snatched or polished styles” before heading out the door. It’s perfect for those long days out where you won’t have time to touch up your hair, seeing as this hairspray boasts 48 hours of frizz control and shine.
It has a lot to do with control.
